One of a kind sewn and quilted items

Trying new things

It’s always fun to moving into a new studio space or to reorganize to work toward better productivity which is what I’ve been working on the beginning of this year. Along with the fun of finding a new spot for all your sewing goodies comes the “Where did I put that?” I’ve tried to stay organized in the transition and so far so good, I haven’t lost anything yet!

In the midst of my studio disarray I’m currently working on knitting a bright baby blanket using the Zig and Zag pattern from Debbie Orr and sewing a color splash purse. I guess the dreariness of winter has me craving fun colors to work with. Part of the fun of a new project for me is choosing what colors to use. I know I have my favorites I like to work with and I’m always intrigued how black can really make certain colors stand out.

This past week I was able to learn a new technique at one of my quilting groups called wonky letters. This may not seem challenging but for those of us who love our rulers it was a new experience. I was able to create two different letters and I did not use my ruler once! It was a freeing experience in creativity using the techniques of Tonya Ricucci and one I am definitely going to try again. What’s your quilting style? Are you typically a ruler user or more of an improv quilter?

Knit it, Quilt it, Gift it.

I’m a little behind on some of my gifts for people this year and I hope that’s not a sign for Christmas presents! Maybe I had better start those now since it’s only 2 months away. Can you believe that?

I finally sent off a wedding present to an art buddy of mine, a.k.a punkie from college. A small wall quilt of blues with the word Love made out of wire. I hope they like it! I’ll post a picture soon.

I also sent off a modern prayer shawl for a sorority sister of mine. She had the unfortunate loss of a baby and I hope my shawl gives her the smallest bit of comfort. My thoughts and prayers are with you EA.

I’d better get back to it, I have a wedding present due 11-11-12. Time is ticking away….
